What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for more than 2,000 years . It is apart of a complete system of Oriental medicine that is used to diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses, as well as promote overall well-being and health.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical technique for unblocking chi (qi) by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang. Chi is an energy that allegedly permeates all things. It is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians.  When yin and yang are in harmony, chi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy.

When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction of chi along one of the meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine has identified some 500 specific points where needles are inserted for specific effects.

How does it work?

The ancient Chinese have developed a system in which practitioners look at patterns of imbalance in the body. The body systems are put back in balance, which promotes self-healing. Acupuncturists focus on the complete physiological and psychological make-up of their patients, including symptoms and other general characteristics of each individual in order to see a pattern of disease. They then take a whole-health approach at treating the illness, rather than treating just symptoms of the illness.

Do we use disposed needles?

The very thin needles we use are specially made for acupuncture and are supplied factory sterilized and individually wrapped. The needles are used one time and then discarded
